The Grand finale in Vermont - Ben & Jerry's

Another warm blue bird day! Today we headed northwest, first stop was the Jay Peak resort ski area. We took the tram to the top and looked out over the country side at 3861 ft of elevation. The resort saw the most snow in all of the country last winter at > 500 inches ( ~ 41ft ) The resort was first built in 1954 and now has grown to quite a destination. 





Heading south we drove through a winding steep section of wooded road called Smugglers Notch (elevation 2163'ft ) which does not allow any truck traffic due to the narrow road.

We then ended up at the Stowe Mountain Ski resort ( elevation 4303 ft)

Our next stop was lunch at a cute little restaurant in the town of Stowe - Idletyme
Luckily we saved enough room for dessert- our last stop, Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory which was pretty darn interesting and they had free samples 😋
Total mileage today 127 miles.

Ohio wine country

 Who knew Ohio had a wine country! We left home at 3:45am to beat the Chicago rush hour traffic which was a good choice. Lesson for the day:  reload your iPass 48 hours before using it in states beyond Illinois. We decided to push on and drive further east of Cleveland, rather than stay at the Oasis on the turnpike. We found a really nice campground in Geneva, Ohio’s wine country. After setting up and a quick nap, we headed into town and had a great dinner at The Old Mill Winery. It was still warm enough to dine on the patio and we sampled a white local wine 😝. I switched to a more enjoyable Cabernet.  Next morning we took a walk around the campground taking in some of their interesting wildlife?              Nostalgic gas station on our way to dinner

Day 2 on to New York

 Today was another longer drive 319 miles / 5 & 1/2 hours . We opted for the scenic route to get off the interstate and were rewarded with beautiful rolling hills, no traffic or construction and miles of the Finger lakes shoreline and lots of vineyards. The wine tasting will have to wait for another day 😊. The campground we are staying at tonight is affiliated with a huge resort / casino. So a shuttle picked us up and took us to the resort where we had our choice of 18 restaurants 😳.  Lobby of the resort. Dave we think we have found your next location for your WTO 😊

9/13 White face mtn

We headed out a bit earlier today as we wanted to get to Whiteface mountain since despite the clouds it was a pretty clear morning. Our first stop on the way there was the High Falls Gorge.This privately owned 22 acre park is part of the west branch of the Ausable river well known as one of the state's famous trout streams, it has several waterfalls that you can view as you take the 1 mile hike. We also learned of the incredible damage done by hurricane Irene in August of 2011 and the historic flooding that occurred when the area was still trying to recover from the flooding of the previous April.                       Unexpected splashes of color, as the trees are just beginning to change :)                                     The river rose far beyond the railing on the right of the photo.   Whiteface Mountain ski resort Once at Whi...
