Saturday 9/27, Back through NH & VT

Image
Today we took the scenic route through the rolling hills of New Hampshire and Vermont on our way to Verona NY which is just east of Syracuse. The landscapes were beautiful.                                          A beautiful Catholic church we passed by in Bennington VT.

Friday 9/26, Heading home

Image
After all of the storms last night it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to blue skies and warmer temps. Rob made a quick run to the local seafood shop to purchase our dinners for the next 2 nights; oysters and mussels. It was a beautiful drive today as we headed south to North Hampton NH. The colors are beautiful and I anticipate they will only get better. After getting set up, we took a ride and had luch at a local brewery and then drove along the coast. My trip was made complete as I had a chance to dip my feet into the Atlantic Ocean 😁.                                               Tonight's dinner; and we schucked them ourselves!

Thursday 9/25 - Bar Harbor day

Image
The forecast for today is rain so we headed to Bar Harbor early to meander through the streets and support their local economy 😂. After a successful morning of shopping we had lunch just as the rain was starting. We quickly headed for home with a few quick stops to reprovision.                                                                Typical Lobster shacks in and around Bar Harbor

Wednesday 9/24 - Camden Bay

Image
Today we traveled along the coast down to Camden Bay, a picturesque harbor town that we visited years ago when we sailed on the Mary Day Schooner. Unfortunately it was not in the harbor today. We meandered around town for a while and enjoyed lunch along the harbor. We also stopped for a quick look at Fort Knox on the way. As you can see by the pictures, the skies were pretty grey today, but no rain.                                                                     Camden Harbor                                                         The Penobscott Narrows Bridge                                 ...

Tuesday 9/23- Mount Desert Island & Acadia Natioanl Park

Image
Today was a beautiful 105 mile trip around Mt Desert Island & Acadia. We started out heading counterclockwise around the western side of the island making our way up the eastern side to Bar Harbor and then on to Acadia. The views were spectacular, finally seeing what I had envisioned this part of Maine to be; rocky cliffs and fishing villages. The day started out much sunnier than we had expected but by the time we were heading up Cadillac Mtn the skies were getting grayer and our day ended getting sprinkled on.  Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse- I discovered that every lighthouse has it's own color signal somewhat like the morse code so that ships can identify where they are.                                                               Southwest Harbor  Thunder hole - the waves come crashing in sometimes reaching heights of...

Today we traveled up the "Bold Coast scenic byway" northeast to the town of Eastport. We walked around this historic fishing port and stopped for lunch, had our first lobster roll.  We then headed back total miles 270.
